Hailed as the “Smooth Operator”, a lot of Sainz’s driving goes unnoticed. Tremendously finishing sixth in the championship in just his first year at McLaren, there was a strong argument for Sainz to be driver of the year.
Who can forget Brazil where he finished third despite starting last? Sainz is intelligent, calm and also instinctive as he often quietly navigates his way up through the points. Mr Reliable.
Following the retirement of his icon, Fernando Alonso, the hopes of Spain in Formula One lie well and truly with Sainz but he is certainly delivering in the double world champion’s absence.
With McLaren on an upward trajectory then don’t be surprised if more podiums are to come in 2020 as they solidify themselves as F1’s ‘best of the rest’.
